In the eighth year of the awareness campaign launched by the Turkish Epilepsy Fighting Association with the unconditional support of UCB Pharma, the İzmir Clock Tower was illuminated with the color purple on March 26th, Purple Day – Epilepsy Awareness Day, to draw attention to epilepsy.
Prof. Dr. Nerses Bebek, President of the Turkish Epilepsy Fighting Association, stated, “According to the Epilepsy Awareness Survey results, 36% of people in our country do not want their relatives to marry someone with epilepsy, 22% of employers say they would not hire someone with epilepsy, 36% think that most people with epilepsy have intellectual and physical developmental disabilities, and 60% feel uncomfortable having individuals with epilepsy around them. However, individuals with epilepsy can lead normal lives, pursue education, work, get married, have children, and achieve success just like everyone else. Through the Look for Epilepsy awareness campaign, we invite everyone to ‘See the Truth.’ We urge everyone to rethink their prejudices against epilepsy, raise awareness, and be part of the change by illuminating the darkness of prejudice against epilepsy with the light of awareness.”
