On the first anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes, Clinical Psychologist Merve Umay Candaş Demir, evaluating the effects of the trauma, stated: “Social support has a healing effect.”

Discussing ways to cope with the anxiety triggered by the earthquake, Clinical Psychologist Merve Umay Candaş Demir said, “On this important anniversary, commemorating our losses together and supporting each other in the existing process is indispensable for community mental health. Coping behaviors such as breathing exercises, nature walks, strengthening social connections, and ensuring healthy sleep patterns can be preferred.”

She added, “Individuals can emerge from this process with different and more positive thoughts about themselves, others, and the world. Especially after mass trauma events like earthquakes, social support and solidarity are important.”
